This research article explores the tradition of national biographical poetry in Punjabi language and literature from its classical origins to the contemporary period. The roots of this tradition can be traced back to classical poets such as Waris Shah, who paid tribute to Baba Farid in his poetic narrative, and Bulleh Shah, whose poetry reflects socio-political consciousness. Later poets including Khawaja Ghulam Farid and Mian Muhammad Bakhsh further strengthened this tradition. During the British colonial period, events such as the Jallianwala Bagh massacre and the martyrdom of Ghazi Ilm-ud-Din Shaheed inspired poets to compose national and resistance-oriented verses. In the era of the Pakistan Movement, prominent leaders like Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Muhammad Iqbal were honored in Punjabi poetry. After the creation of Pakistan, national events, political upheavals, and historical crises continued to shape this poetic tradition. The study concludes that national biographical poetry in Punjabi literature serves not merely as praise but as a powerful medium of collective memory, resistance, and national consciousness.
