Abstract

Many languages exist in literary history of Indus valley. These languages not only leaded to divide the region but also discriminated the common people. According to many historians, words of Arabic and Persian became in use during the sixth and seventh century in India whereas in twelfth century their compositions are found at large as most of the legendary and classical poets of Punjabi are found in this period. In fourteenth and fifteenth century usage of Arabic and Persian words were compulsory for education. That is why, the founder of Sikh religion, Sri Guru Nanak Sahib, in addition to getting knowledge of other religions learned Arabic and Persian languages from Moulvi Qutub-ud-Din who was the teacher of time. After that Guru Nanak Sahib travelled (Udaasi) in all the four directions and utilized other languages in his religious scripts of Punjabi Poetry. The remaining Gurus, Bhagats, Bhutts and Gurusikhs also followed this ritual and used Arabic and Persian words accordingly in obedience of their guardians. Where there is teaching of Arabic and Persian, the history and civilization has also been described in a nice way. It is necessary to mention here that no work has since been done on Guru Grenth in any University of Pakistan, and due to lack of knowledge of Arabic and Persian in India at this time, the work on glossaries of Guru Nanak Sahib is found in a very beginning stage. At the end of this theses it has been my utmost wish that there should not remain any griviance about Arabic and Persian words used by Guru Nanak Sahib so as to provide full knowledge to the coming generations.
