Abstract

"Punjabi is the oldest, richest and most spoken language in Pakistan. Majority of people in Punjab speak Punjabi language. Despite being the oldest and richest language of the region, it is not included in education on any level. This is the one of the reasons why literacy rate in Punjab is lower than that of Sindh and KPK. Before the rule of British in Punjab, Punjabi language was used in religious madrasa to teach Tafseer, Hadith and Fiqah. In point of view of religious curriculum most of the Quranic translations were in Punjabi. Translation of Hadith and biography of Holy Prophet was also done in Punjabi. Islamic history was written in the form of Miraj Nama. And devotion to Holy Prophet (SAW) was written in the form of Naat compilations i.e. Tauleed Nama, Noor Nama, Huliya Shareef, Wafat Nama. For Fiqah books like Rooti Adab, Bohal Namaz, Charkha Nama, Talab Nama, Roza Nama, Molvi Nama, Gulzarain and Jindri were written in Punjabi for people to understand easily.Even today in Punjab many Mosque especially in rural area molvi deliver Friday sermon in Punjabi language. Due to which people living in rural area are more closely associated with Islam as compared to people living in cities. Due to materialism, today's common Punjabi is surrounded by many issues (moral, religious, social, economic, and societal). It is the need of the hour to spread Islamic teachings in Punjabi language so that people can easily follow the teachings in this chaotic era and live an easy life. This will revolutionize the life of a common man as well as it will spread the air of brotherhood and humanity in society. If we become successful in spreading our religious teaching in Punjabi language then very soon we will be among developed nations of the world."
