Abstract

Sajjad Haider was a writer, translator and playwright and novelist from Punjab, Pakistan. He has a Punjabi novel "Chaitar Bagh" to his credit where he portrayed rural life and behavior of villagers towards shrines and tombs. He compared attitudes of learned folks with illiterate people. He chose Gujrat( a city in Punjab) and its surroundings for the said purpose. He used pure Punjabi for the cause. This paper aims to study his novel "Chaitar Bagh" while keeping in mind its fine depiction of human nature and thoughts towards monasteries. It also explores the linguistic terminology he made use of in the novel.
